We need to steer away from the egotistical, corporate profiteering, causing poverty and homelessness, towards ecologically sound governance, that helps everyone enjoy a good life full of opportunity: with the abundance that nature has to offer when we work according to it’s super intelligent principles, rather than Monsanto’s marketing campaign.

COVID 19, and the response to it, has delivered a much needed wake up call to the whole world. As Jane Goodall has remarked:’We have brought in on ourselves, with our disrespect for nature’.
The Outdoors Party has come up trumps by championing the wilderness, because if we can’t save that for future generations in eternity, we have little hope of saving ourselves as a species.

We have lost 40% of wildlife in 50 years

72% of flying insects disappeared in just 27 years

By 2050 there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish

There are one million species facing extinction and therefore we are punching 200 holes per day in the web of life that we depend upon for our very existence.

It is time to lift this toxic burden off ourselves and the web of life immediately! It has gone on far too long and we could easily reach a point of no return.

As the UNESCO report of 2019 pointed out, the main driver is loss of  habitat and degradation  from toxic and polluting substances and practices. 80% of chronic disease is said to have an environmental cause. Rates of obesity, auto-immune disease, cancer and heart disease are sky rocketing.

My bio follows, for those of you who need to be convinced that I’m no fly-by-nighter, and have the experience and track record to be worthy of your vote.

I was born in non-fluoridated Onehunga, and grew up on a dairy farm on the West Coast of Dargaville: and attended the Primers, Primary, Intermediate and High Schools there, becoming Dux in 1966, after a year at Auckland Girls Grammar in 1965.

Auckland was fluoridated the year I studied at Glendowie College in 1967. My nightmare began as I wondered what was wrong with me, through three years at the new Auckland Medical School, and for 35 years after moving to Auckland in 1977, until I finally stopped drinking the artificially fluoridated tap water in October 2012. I experienced tremendous improvements in my health within just a few days.    I tell more of this ‘Fluoride Effect’ on the Fluoridation Information Network FB page ~ HERE and  explains why I have campaigned for referendums to cease this dangerous practice.

I often wondered why I felt perfectly fine back home during the holidays while for the rest of the year, I felt like I was “walking through treacle“.   Looking for answers to my debility (or fluorotoxicosis ) I have studied many natural health therapies and tutored over 500 adults in Homoeopathy, through Community Education.

I have been wrongly labelled an ‘anti-vaxxer’, and subjected to abuse, despite having both my sons vaccinated for the DTP, and suffering terribly from them and a smallpox vaccine in 1971.    Even now my billboard calling for this bullying and abuse to stop is being attacked, and yet there are constant calls to stop such harassment and nasty gossip concerning those afflicted by COVID 19.

In June 1990 about 20 residents bordering the Sherwood Reserve in Browns Bay turned up at a working bee to stop the council poisoning the local playground and Friends of Sherwood was born ~ FB page here.

We formulated the AIM of having a beautiful and healthy neighbourhood in which to LIVE as free as possible of toxic chemicals, waste and other pollution.

We expanded the area surrounding the playground to the trees and then the whole reserve and 23 kms of roading around it until we had figures to show that with community involvement, non-toxic methods could compete with the cost of Roundup ~ which the active ingredient, glyphosate, was categorised as a ‘probable human carcinogen‘ by the IARC committee of WHO in March 2015.

Friends of Sherwood  won vegetation contracts to manage the whole of East Coast Bays without the use of toxic chemicals, implementing our Integrated Organic Management Model, based on the catchment as the minimal unit of management, but were pushed aside when the Waipuna Hot Water system was adopted.

As the co-ordinator for Friends of Sherwood I sat on the Working Parties of both Projects CARE and Rosedale to clean up the beaches and upgrade the Rosedale Treatment Plant.

I received the NZ Health Industry’s Distinguished Public Service Award for initiating public education and promoting awareness on environmental health issues in 1999, and in that same year, FOS gained a grant from Infrastructure Auckland to plant 30,000 native species along almost 2 kilometres of the Taiaotea Stream banks in Browns Bay, to improve the water quality.

We set up an Eco-Community Recycling Centre and Workshop, The Green-Bee Hive in the Sherwood Shops and it became an Environment Centre for a time until VODAFONE decided to erect a cell phone site right in front of it despite FOS appealing to the Environment Court: and after fighting 2 other consents for subdivision of Special Development Areas (SDA’s), this court battle left us severely depleted.

In 2018 Friends of Sherwood managed to delay the 1080 drop in the Hunuas with two interim injunctions, and even though the drop proceeded in the end, it gave residents the opportunity to better protect themselves from some of 1080 toxicity in their water. I have stood in numerous national and local body elections to raise awareness of these issues including thrice for Mayor of Auckland, DHBs, Waitemata, Northcote, and the BAN 1080 Party in East Coast Bays in the 2014 election.

For the past 18 months our focus has been to collect signatures to force a Citizens initiated Referendum on 1080 and other cruel poisons because the horrible torture 1080 poison inflicts on all living things is intolerable and unacceptable, and can never be justified.
The COVID lockdown has prevented us from collecting sufficient signatures, and although we have asked for a postponement of the collection time it has fallen on deaf ears, with not one member of the present government even acknowledging our request. We are still collecting signatures by proxy and also for another COVID petition asking that the time frame be extended retrospectively to allow us to gain the 325,000 signatures needed.

Visit www.STOP366.wordpress.com to sign both petitions.

Whangaparaoa is a newly formed electorate, that I hope will embrace the values that the Outdoors Party represents, and vote for us with confidence, knowing that, as your representative, I will never give up the battle to create a legacy for our children that we can all be proud of.
