The Outdoors Party is the Political Voice for Hunters and Fisherman

Over the years the outdoors values of New Zealand have been very poorly represented because we have relied on other parties to advocate on outdoors issues. The result has been many of the things New Zealanders treasure being degraded or destroyed. Examples such as excessive trawling and waste by the commercial fishing industry and polluted rivers caused by intensive corporate farming practices. Despite promises by some political parties we still see aerial 1080 scattered all over clean, green New Zealand for over 60 years and increasing restrictions on our outdoors way of life by the anti-gun lobby.
The NZ Outdoors Party was formed by hunters and fisherman so that the outdoors can have a voice that is not tainted by party politics. Outdoors people and outdoors issues are the only item on the agenda. Not jobs for the boys or looking after commercial interests, but protection of those things that make New Zealand different to the rest of the world – our outdoors environment and heritage.
By leaving outdoors issues to other parties the outdoors voter is just treated with contempt and lied to at election time, history has shown mainstream political parties have no intention of ever enacting any of their promises in this regard.
National announced before the last election they would create recreational fishing reserves – a move which countered United Future’s “recreational fishing ” policy which was starting to gain traction. National announced that the reserves would be subject to a plan to be released in November of that year.  Now three years later nothing! What will they announce this time around?
New Zealand First said they will ban 1080 and trawlers operating within 12 nautical miles of the coastline. They scoop up a good part of the vote but never go into coalition with anyone and so never have to honor any of their election promises.
United Future promised ‘recreational fishing species’ but when supply and confidence talks finished this promise was watered down United Future being “consulted” only. One UF board member said the outdoors vote had been a big disappointment and they should abandon any interests in outdoors policies.
The Greens are committed to a firearms registry, reducing firearms licence terms from ten to five years restricting firearms use and Make private ownership of fully functional semi-automatic weapons illegal.  That is virtually every duck hunters’ shotgun and varmint hunter’s Ruger 10/22 in NZ!

Labour have completely lost touch with NZ people. Stuart Nash, Labour MP for Napier chaired the recent Law & Order Select Committee on illegal use of firearms and helped come up with a list of 16 recommendations and with the exception of one, all do nothing to counter criminal firearms use, rather, penalise the law abiding firearms user.

Let’s be honest, the Beehive is a collection of career politicians many who have never had a real job in their life let alone lived outside of the cocoon of Government limousines and political advisers.
The Outdoors Party is the party for hunters, fishers and all lovers of the New Zealand outdoors. If every hunter and angler voted with their party vote for the Outdoors Party we can dig our heels in on issues such as no aerial 1080, clean and full rivers, more fish in the ocean and hunters having co-management of the game animal resource. The balance of power in NZ politics is what it is all about.  NZ First have had it but never used it mostly because of so many competing interests within the party. The NZ Outdoors Party is solely focused on outdoors issues. If the Outdoors Party got one or two persons elected then their ability to negotiate change is huge. However, all the other parties continue to nibble away at the outdoors vote with vague election promises never to be filled. We need to make a concerted effort to change things. Our party and our vote. Lets put a hunter and angler in parliament to look after our interests.
