NZ Outdoors Party Seniors Policy

Our Vision: We want to create a country where we are admired by the world not just because of our wonderful natural environment, but because of the way we live. A way of life that protects and enhances that environment.

Our goal for our seniors

To advance support and protect the welfare, well-being and quality of life of all seniors. To recognise their contribution to New Zealand. To ensure that they are able to contribute in which ever way they choose, to the future prosperity of NZ, either through work or volunteering.

We will support seniors to stay living in their own homes if that’s what they wish and it’s what is best for them.

Superannuation

We will increase superannuation to 75% of the living wage.

We will increase the rates subsidy for retirees based on need.

Reduce Tax

It’s not the governments job to drive people into poverty so we will remove tax on income below the living wage (around $40,000 currently)

We care about what you care about.

At the end of the day, our elders are not just concerned for themselves but for how their descendants succeed into the future.  At the Outdoors Party we’re aware that many of the things government does supports corporate profits, whether it’s food, money, health, housing, farming, the environment, over people and place. Many of these poorly thought out decisions will have negative impacts on our people and environment for decades to come.

The Outdoors Party will make changes in legislation to ensure that government decisions about food, agriculture, healthcare, our environment, our finances, trade and more put our people and our environment at the heart of decisions, not corporate and foreign profits, to ensure the well being of all our people, whatever their age, forever.

Commissioner for seniors

We will appoint a Seniors Commissioner with wide ranging powers whose specific aim is to report on progress towards our goals. We are not afraid to be held to account.

Retirement housing

In keeping with our housing for all policy, we will ensure that all Seniors have access to safe and fit for purpose housing.

More for the Gold Card

We will increase transport concessions so that seniors can access safe and reliable transport as well as any other useful concessions.

The Outdoors Party is committed to the well being of our seniors

We want healthy longevity to be normal. Research shows that health in old age is build from a life time of beneficial habits. There are nations that enjoy excellent health into old age, sadly New Zealand is not one of them. We have some of the highest rates of heart disease, strokes, motor neuron disease. Our alternative solution is to emulate what the most successful countries do and recreate their lifestyles and diet here in New Zealand.

The Outdoors Party wants to overhaul our medical systems to create  good health rather our current: ‘disease management system’. The Covid-19 scare is an example of this – experienced medical professionals noticed certain medications made patients more susceptible to the Corona-SARS-2 virus covid19. Government needed to act quickly to replace harmful medications with safer ones and promote therapies proven to be effective for all novel infections, instead of just crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.
